A Legacy Of Liberation: MDFCSC Celebrates Zambia’s National Day
The Malawi Defence Force Command and Staff College (MDFCSC) on Friday, 30 October 2026, commemorated Zambia’s 62nd Independence Anniversary in a ceremony held at the Fish Eagle premises on campus. Although Zambia’s actual Independence Day falls on 24 October, the celebrations were deferred to accommodate Exercise TAKHWIMA, ensuring the historic milestone received the recognition it deserved. The event brought together the college’s leadership, directing staff and Zambian student officers from the Senior and Junior Command and Staff Courses, including Colonel MUTALE, Lieutenant Colonel NGOMA, Colonel TEMBO, Lieutenant Colonel Frank MARAMA, Major CHIJWIKA, Captain MUZHIYO, Captain KALWIZI and Captain MWANGU. Commandant Major General Vincent MOYO graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.

In his address, Major General MOYO extended heartfelt congratulations to the Government and people of Zambia, paying tribute to their enduring struggle, sacrifice and triumph in attaining independence. He further commended Zambia’s historic role as a frontline state in the liberation struggle against apartheid in South Africa, underscoring its invaluable contribution to the pursuit of freedom and justice in the region. He noted that the commemoration served as a solemn reminder to military personnel of their collective responsibility to defend national sovereignty, preserve peace and advance regional stability.

Major General MOYO further reaffirmed the enduring bonds of camaraderie between the MDFCSC and Zambia’s Defence Services and Staff College, strengthened through exchanges of directing staff and student officers, participation in Combined Joint African exercises, and cooperation under the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Standby Force framework. The celebration transcended a mere commemoration of independence, embodying the enduring spirit of African solidarity, military fraternity and a shared commitment to safeguarding peace and security across the region.
