MDF CSC Hands Over CJAX Coordinating Authority to TPDF CSC

The Malawi Defence Force Command and Staff College (MDFCSC) has handed over the Coordinating Authority
for the Combined Joint African Exercise (CJAX) to the Tanzania Defence Force Command and Staff College for
the 2027 exercise. The handover event took place at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe.
Speaking during the ceremony, MDFCSC Commandant, Major General Vincent Moyo said CJAX had become
one of the African region’s credible platforms for promoting interoperability, strengthening professional military
education and building collective capabilities required for contemporary multidimensional peace support
operations.
“I’m really grateful for the support rendered to us. The Combined Joint African Exercise is a tool for addressing
emerging military challenges. It develops effective interoperability, improves professionalism and promote
collective capacity required for peace support operations,” he said.
Concurring with Major General Moyo, Tanzania Defence Force Command and Staff College Commandant,
Major General Steven Justice Mnkande said CJAX plays an important role in supporting the African Standby
Force through regional economic communities such as the Southern African Development Community
(SADC). He said the exercise provides military officers with essential capabilities in warfare planning and
operations, thereby contributing to regional preparedness for peace support missions.
Major General Mnkande also commended Major General Moyo and the MDFCSC for their performance in
coordinating the exercise, noting that the responsibility required considerable human and material resources.
“I commend the MDFCSC Commandant for the high-level performance of the job. This is not an easy road to
pass, as it requires huge resources and human capability to achieve the objective,” he said.
The transfer of the Coordinating Authority means Tanzania will take responsibility for coordinating the 2027
CJAX, continuing the exercise’s role in strengthening cooperation, interoperability and operational
preparedness among African defence forces.
